Agent FAQs

Questions agents ask us

Straight answers about the Lucid Freight agent program, how you get paid, and how fast you can get started.

The program

What is the Lucid Freight agent program?

It's a program for independent freight agents who want to run their own book with the support of a full brokerage behind them: carrier vetting, billing, collections, customer credit checks and modern tools — with no cost to you and no monthly fees, ever.

Do I need to sign a non-compete or non-solicit?

No. We don't ask agents to sign non-competes or non-solicits. You stay because the program works for you, not because a contract says you have to.

Who owns the customers?

You do. The customers you bring and build are yours. We don't have customer saturation today. If we ever do, we'll work it out so you don't lose the ability to work with your clients.

Can I work remotely?

Yes. The program is fully remote. Agents just need to be based in the United States.

What is the difference between a freight agent and a freight broker?

A freight broker holds its own FMCSA authority and bond and carries the financial risk of paying carriers. A freight agent works under a broker's authority and earns a commission split, without the startup cost or receivables risk. At Lucid, you run your book and we handle authority, billing and collections.

What does Lucid handle for agents?

Carrier vetting, billing, collections, customer credit checks, claims help and modern freight technology, so you can spend your time selling and serving customers.

What freight can I move?

Agents move full truckload, LTL, over-dimensional, drayage, expedited and cross-border freight across the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

Commission & pay

What is the commission split?

Up to 80% commission, depending on your book of business. We’ll discuss your individual split on a confidential call and provide your terms in writing. The maximum is not a guaranteed split.

How is freight agent commission calculated?

Your commission is your split of the gross margin on each load: what the shipper pays minus what the carrier is paid. A bigger book typically earns a higher split.

When do I get paid?

Commissions are paid twice a month, on the 2nd and the 16th.

Does it cost anything to join? Are there monthly fees?

No, and no. There's no cost to join, no monthly fees, and no charge for tools or technology — ever. Some agencies charge their agents monthly fees for TMS access, load boards or software; at Lucid, everything is included.

Can you check my customers' credit?

Yes. We have tools in place to run credit checks on customers, so you can take on new accounts with confidence.

Applying & approval

Who qualifies?

You need to be based in the U.S., have an active book of business, and provide a valid ID and driver's license.

How do I apply?

Start your application online at agents.lucidfreight.co. If you'd rather talk first, book an intro call or send a confidential inquiry from our agent program page.

What does the freight agent application ask for?

Your experience, the size of your book of business, and your contact and ID details. Our team reviews it and reaches out to talk through your goals.

How long does approval take?

We move at your pace. Agents can be approved, onboarded and set up the same day. If you'd rather ramp up over a few weeks, that works too.

What happens after I'm approved?

You'll receive your agreement and commission terms in writing, then we'll get you set up with our tools, carrier network and billing so you can start moving freight on your own timeline.

Can I move my existing book of business to Lucid?

Yes. With no non-compete required and customer ownership in writing, agents can bring their existing customers and keep them.
